PAN card correction is required when your PAN details such as name, address, date of birth, photo, signature or mobile number are incorrect or need to be updated. PAN card update online can be done through two authorised portals, the Protean PAN website (formerly NSDL e-Gov) and the UTIITSL portal.

PAN card update refers to modifying or correcting personal details printed on your Permanent Account Number (PAN) card. This includes changes to your name, date of birth, father’s name, address, mobile number, photo, or signature. The PAN card correction form must be submitted to modify these details in the PAN card.
NSDL e-Gov is now renamed Protean eGov Technologies, and the Protean PAN website is the primary platform for PAN card update online. The PAN correction form can also be downloaded from UTIITSL.
If you have applied for a PAN card via the NSDL e-Gov website, then you need to do PAN card correction online by updating PAN details on that website. Follow this step-by-step guide to make NSDL pan card correction online:
Step 1: Visit the Protean PAN website.
Step 2: Now scroll down and locate the heading ‘Change/ Correction in PAN Data’ and click on ‘Apply Now’.
Step 1: You will now have to fill up this Online PAN Application. Let us see how to fill all the particulars:
Step 2: Once the request is registered, you will receive a Token Number on the Email ID provided here. This token number can be used to access the draft version of the form in case of session timeout. Now, click on ‘Continue with PAN Application Form’.
Step 1: On this screen, you will see three options.
To complete the NSDL pan card correction process online through Aadhaar OTP, select the first option ‘Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)’ for updating your PAN.
Step 2: If you need a new physical copy of the updated PAN card, select yes. Nominal charges will be applicable.
Step 1: Scroll down and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
Step 2: Scroll down and update the required details. Remember to tick the relevant box for which correction or update is required. After filling up, click on ‘Next’ to proceed to the page ‘Contact and other details’.
Step 3: Here, enter the new address or updated mobile number or email and proceed to the next page.
Step 4: Based on the particular you have updated, attach the proof document along with a copy of PAN.

Step 6: Scroll down and attach a copy of your ‘photograph’ and ‘signature’. Ensure the files are as per the specifications and sizes mentioned. Once done, click ‘Submit’.
Step 7: You will now see a preview of the form. Enter the first eight digits of your Aadhaar Number and ensure all other details filled in by you are correct.
Step 8: After submitting the PAN card correction form, the payment page will appear. Payment can be done through various payment gateways. After successful payment, you will receive a payment receipt.
Step 9: To complete the PAN card update/correction process, click ‘continue’. You will now have to complete the KYC process. Select the check box to accept the terms and conditions and click on ‘Authenticate’.
Step 10: An OTP will be generated and sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and submit the online PAN application form.
Step 11: On the next screen, click on ‘continue’ with eSign.
Step 12: Here, accept the terms and conditions by ticking the box. Enter your Aadhaar number and click on ‘Send OTP’.
Step 13: Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number and verify. You can now download the acknowledgement form. The password to open this file is your date of birth in the format DD/MM/YYYY.
Please note: If you choose the ‘Forward application documents physically’ option, you will have to take a print out of the acknowledgement and send the acknowledgement along with the attachment of the required documents to the following address by post:

It is the fastest, fully online method with no physical documents or courier required. PAN correction and verification are completed instantly using Aadhaar-linked mobile OTP.
When you have applied for a PAN card on the UTIITSL website, you need to update the PAN card details on the UTIITSL website. Follow the steps to update PAN card via UTIITSL portal:
Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Click the ‘Click to Apply’ under the ‘Change/Correction in PAN Card’ tab.
Step 3: Click the ‘Apply for Change/Correction in PAN card details’ tab.
Step 4: Select the mode of submission of documents, enter your PAN number, select the PAN card mode and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 5: Once the request is registered, you will receive a reference number. Click on ‘OK’.
Step 6: Remember to tick the fields that requires to be updated or corrected. Enter the updated or correct personal details. Click on ‘Next Step’ once the details are entered.
Step 7: Address will be updated as per your Aadhaar card. Enter your contact details and click on ‘Next Step’.
Step 8: Enter the PAN number and verification and click the ‘Next Step’ button.
Step 9: Upload the documents and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 10: Verify the details on the form and click on the ‘Make Payment’ button.
Step 11: Select the mode of online payment and make the payment. A success message will be displayed once the payment is successfully made. Take a print out of the form.
It generally takes around 15 days for PAN card update online. You will receive a text message on your registered mobile number when your PAN card is dispatched via post.
Please note: If you choose the ‘Physical(Forward Application with documents physically)’ option in Step 4, you will have to take a print out of the form, affix photograph and signature, attach the documents to the form and post them to any one of the following nearest UTIITSL offices:

To file for PAN card update offline, follow this step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Download the PAN card correction form online.
Step 2: Fill out the entire form and submit the same with essential documents at any nearest PAN centre.
Step 3: After your submission and payment, you will receive an acknowledgement slip at the centre.
Step 4: You will need to send this slip to the Income Tax PAN Service Unit of the NSDL within 15 days.

Update your legal name by submitting identity proof and name change proof (marriage certificate, gazette, etc.).

The fee for PAN card update when submitted offline is Rs.110. If the PAN card is to be dispatched outside India, the applicant should pay an additional dispatch fee of Rs.910.
