The Income Tax Department issues the Permanent Account Number (PAN), a unique 10-digit alphanumeric number. A PAN card is compulsory for all taxpayers. When you apply for a PAN card, you will receive it at your registered address or email ID. You can also apply for a PAN card download online and get a copy of the same within seconds.

You can download your PAN card online from the NSDL Protean, UTIITSL or the Income Tax website. However, you can download the PAN card only from the website where you have applied for a new or updated PAN card.
For example: If you have applied for a new PAN card or PAN card correction on the NSDL Protean website, you can download the PAN card only from the NSDL Protean website.
The PAN card downloaded from the NSDL, UTIITSL or the Income Tax e-filing portal is the digital copy of your PAN card or e-PAN card. You can download a digital copy of your PAN card as soon as it is allotted or confirmed by the Income Tax Department.
The facility to download an e-PAN card through the NSDL Protean portal is available for applicants who have applied for a PAN card through the NSDL Protean website. Any new PAN card or updated PAN card can be downloaded free of cost within 30 days of PAN card allotment or confirmation from the income tax department. Otherwise, you need to pay extra charges of Rs. 8.26.
Here is the process to download PAN card from NSDL Protean:
Step 1: Go to the official website of the NSDL Protean portal.
Step 2: Scroll down and select ‘Request for e-PAN/ e-PAN XML (PANs allotted in last 30 days)’ or ‘Request for e-PAN/ e-PAN XML (PANs allotted prior to 30 days)’, as applicable. You will be redirected to a new page.
Step 3: On the next page, you can choose ‘Acknowledgement Number’ or ‘PAN’ option. When you choose the ‘PAN’ option, enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, date of birth/incorporation and GSTN (if applicable), and captcha code and click the ‘Submit’ button.
When you choose the ‘Acknowledgement Number’ option, enter the Acknowledgement number, date of birth/incorporation, captcha code and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 4: Choose any one option, tick the declaration and click the ‘Generate OTP’ button.
Step 5: Now, enter the OTP and click on the ‘Validate’ button.
Step 6: If your free download of e-PAN is exhausted, you will receive a message on the screen. Click on the ‘Continue with paid e-PAN download facility’. Select the payment option and pay the fee.
Step 7: Your e-PAN card will be sent to your email ID as a PDF file. You can click on the download icon to download your e-PAN card.
The facility to download e-PAN through the UTIITSL portal is available for applicants who have applied for a PAN card through the UTIITSL portal. Any new PAN card or updated PAN card can be downloaded free of cost within 30 days of PAN card allotment or confirmation from the income tax department. Otherwise, you need to pay extra charges of Rs. 8.26.
Here is the process to download PAN card from UTIITSL:
Step 1: Go to the official UTIITSL portal.
Step 2: Scroll down and click on the ‘Click to Download’ option under the ‘Download e-PAN’ tab.
Step 3: You will be redirected to a new page. Enter your PAN number, date of birth, GSTIN number if required, and captcha code, then click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 4: On the next page, enter the captcha code and select the mode of receiving OTP (Both Email and SMS, Only Email or Only SMS). Tick the declaration and click the ‘Get OTP’ button.
Step 5: Now, enter the OTP and click on the ‘Validate’ button.
Step 6: Make the payment, if applicable. E-PAN card will be sent to your email ID. Click on the link in your email ID to download the e-PAN.
You can download your e-PAN card with Aadhaar Number from the Income Tax e-filing portal. However, the facility to download e-PAN through the Income Tax e-filing website is available for applicants who have applied for an instant e-PAN card from an Aadhaar number on the e-filing website. There are no charges to download an instant e-PAN card.
Here is the process to download PAN card from Income Tax e-filing portal:
Step 1: Visit the official Income Tax e-filing portal.
Step 2: Under the ‘Check Status/ Download PAN’ tab click the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 3: Enter ‘Aadhaar Number’ and click the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 4: Enter the ‘Aadhaar OTP’ send to your Aadhaar registered mobile number and click ‘Continue’.
Step 5: The status of your e-PAN will be displayed. When the new e-PAN has been allotted, click the ‘Download e-PAN’ to download the e-PAN copy.
When you apply for a PAN card download, your PAN card will be sent to your email ID from the NSDL Protean or the UTIITSL website as a PDF file. The downloaded PDF file containing your e-PAN card can be opened by entering the PAN card password.
Your date of birth or date of incorporation is your password to open the downloaded e-PAN card PDF file. The password format to open the e-PAN card PDF file is as follows: DDMMYYYY.
You can download your PAN card without PAN number when you have applied for the e-PAN card on the NSDL Protean website or the Income Tax e-filing portal.

Step 1: Visit the official NSDL e-PAN Download Portal.
Step 2: Select the ‘Acknowledgement Number’ option.
Step 3: Enter your Acknowledgement Number, Date of Birth, and the Captcha Code displayed on the screen.
Step 4: Choose your preferred OTP delivery mode, and enter the OTP you receive and confirm your identity.
Step 5: Once verified, proceed to make the payment (if applicable) to download your e-PAN card.
Below are the steps to download a PAN card without a PAN number from the Income Tax e-filing portal:
Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Portal.

Step 1: Sign in to your Digilocker account.
Step 2: Under ‘Issued Documents’, search for ‘Income Tax Department’ and click on the ‘PAN Verification Record’ tab.
Step 3: Enter your PAN details, such as your PAN number and name on your PAN card.
Step 4: Tick the consent and click on ‘Get Document’.
Step 5: Your PAN card will be downloaded to your Digilocker.
Step 6: The PAN card document can be shared with requesters whenever required.
